Meniere's disease. A stepwise approach
نویسنده
چکیده
M énière’s disease is characterised by recurrent attacks of vertigo accompanied by fluctuating sensorineural hearing loss, tinnitus and a sense of aural fullness. Prosper Ménière in 1861 correctly attributed the attacks to a disorder of the inner ear, suggesting that the mechanism of causation could be similar to migraine or inner ear vasospasm, a differential diagnosis which is still relevant for the disease today.1

Methylprednisolone Versus Dexamethasone for Control of Vertigo in Patients with Definite Meniere's Disease: A Randomized Clinical Trial
Introduction: Definite Meniere's diseaseis associated with two or more definitive periods of vertigo along with hearing loss, plus tinnitus or aural fullness or both. This study aimed to compare the effect of intratympanic dexamethasone and methylprednisolone on the functional-level scale of pure-tone audiometry (PTA), and class outcome measures of vertigo. Materials and Methods: In this clini...
متن کاملHLA-Cw Allele Frequency in Definite Meniere’s Disease Compared to Probable Meniere’s Disease and Healthy Controls in an Iranian Sample
INTRODUCTION Several lines of evidence support the contribution of autoimmune mechanisms in the pathogenesis of Meniere's disease. The aim of this study was determining the association between HLA-Cw Alleles in patients with definite Meniere's disease and patients with probable Meniere's disease and a control group. MATERIALS AND METHODS HLA-Cw genotyping was performed in 23 patients with def...
متن کاملBlockage of longitudinal flow in Meniere's disease: A human temporal bone study
CONCLUSION Blockage of the endolymphatic duct is a significant finding in Meniere's disease. The position of the utriculo-endolymphatic valve (UEV) and blockage of the ductus reuniens in the temporal bones were not found to be directly indicative of Meniere's disease. OBJECTIVE Comparison of blockage of the longitudinal flow of endolymph between ears affected by Meniere's disease and normal e...
متن کاملPreliminary report: neural firing patterns specific for Meniere’s disease
OBJECTIVE To describe the application of a new, objective diagnostic test for Meniere's disease. INTRODUCTION Electrovestibulography (EVestG) is a complex, newly-developed test paradigm that searches for neural firing patterns that may be diagnostic for particular neural disorders. EVestG system was previously "trained" to distinguish Meniere's disease from other patients on a set of training...
متن کاملTRANSTYMPANIC ELECTROCOCHLEOGRAPHY FOR EVALUATION OF MENIERE\'S DISEASE
35 patients with unilateral sensorineural impairment and hearing levels within the normal range in the opposite ears were investigated by bilateral transtympanic electrocochleography (TIECoG). Only 19 patients (54%) satisfied the criteria for Meniere's disease and 16 patients (46%) showed sensorineural impairment due to other etiologies. Clinical studies have focused exclusively on the a mp...
